Parent Governor Statement
Child’s Name: Alex & Lucas Strom (Orchid & Magenta classes)
I am standing for election as a parent governor because:
I am a parent to Alex and Lucas, they are twins who recently joined Reception into Magenta and Orchid. My experience of Kelvin Grove so far has been excellent. Like many parents we were nervous about the start of school, made especially so as we had two starting at the same time. However, we need not have feared as the teachers and staff at Kelvin Grove have made it a wonderful transition.
Having now lived locally, near Wells Park, for 10 years (if you are a dog-walker you may know our dog Ziggy), I know and care about our local community and I want to be involved. For much of that time I have worked with local kids as an assistant Scout Leader so I have an understanding of how difficult it can be to teach or even to just get kids to pay attention, I understand child protection issues and would love to bring this experience as local parent and youth-worker to Kelvin Grove.
Looking back at my own schooling, I probably had ADHD but that wasn’t a diagnosis back then. My mom began working with me more every night and moved me to another school that focused on the basics and taught phonics as my reading was so poor. Without that intervention I am not sure how I would have turned out, the teachers at the new school were more invested and certainly helped me to succeed but more importantly they helped me to enjoy learning.
I am part-time Dad and part-time self-employed architect. I believe my professional experience as an architect has given me a skill set that is very appropriate for a parent governor, navigating the complex and often tricky relationships between stake holders, partners, families and builders in projects that can be very stressful. I am very approachable, friendly and open to different perspectives.
A positive educational experience is a major key to being successful in life and I would like to play my part in supporting our kids at Kelvin Grove as a Parent Governor.
