Dear Parents/Carers of Year 5 pupil,
Y5 curriculum, Summer 1 2021
We hope you had a restful break. We have an interesting term ahead of us, with a lot of work and fun to be had! Our Learning Journey topic this term is titled: ‘Painting on Walls’ – with the Depth Enquiry Question: ‘Graffiti – Ancient or modern, art or crime?’. On the next page we have outlined what we will be covering in class.
P.E. Lessons
Please ensure your child wears the appropriate kit to school on the following days, including trainers and shorts, as the weather warms up.
Lavender Class will have P.E. each Monday (19/4, 26/4, 10/5, 17/5, 24/5) and on alternate Wednesdays (28/4, 12/5, 26/5).
Indigo Class will have P.E. each Friday (23/4, 30/4, 7/5, 14/5, 21/5, 28/5) and on alternate Wednesdays (28/4, 12/5, 26/5).
Violet Class will have P.E. lessons each Thursday (22/4, 29/4, 6/5, 13/5, 20/5, 27/5) and on alternate Tuesdays (27/4, 11/5, 25/5).
Homework
Reading: We encourage your child to read at home on a daily basis. You can support us with this by asking your child to read aloud to you – this could be a whole chapter you share together or a selected extract of what they have read that day. Reading aloud will help develop their fluency, but will also help to open up a discussion about what they are reading. Each time your child has read, they must record this in their Reading Record Book and then please could you sign it. The Reading Record Book gives us an indication of how your child is engaging with reading – it is very important they bring it to school each day.
Maths and Spelling: As before, maths homework is set each Monday on Seesaw. Spellings will be taught throughout the week. Please encourage your child to practise and learn the words that fit the weekly rule/pattern each day, and they will also have spelling homework set on Seesaw.
Answers to the home learning will be uploaded to Seesaw each Thursday for the children to check their work themselves.
Home Learning Project: We will be setting a series of tasks to complete based on our learning over the course of this term. These will be posted on Seesaw each Monday (or alternate Mondays depending on the length of the task).
Other information:
Please remember the healthy snack for playtime e.g. a piece of fruit or a cereal bar, for snack time. No crisps or chocolate bars please.
Please ensure your child is at school promptly, as they are missing out on their learning if not. The register will be closed at 9.15am.
Please encourage your child to wear full school uniform, apart from on P.E. days. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings.
Thank you, and as always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Mrs. Campbell, Miss. Theobalds and Mr. Gough
