Dear Parents/Carers,
Re: RSE and Science
Our current science topic is ‘Animals Including Humans’. As part of the Science and RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) Curriculum, our Year 5 pupils will be taught the following at an age-appropriate level:
- to be aware and proud of their own self- and body-image
- to explain how a girl’s and a boy’s body changes during puberty and understand the importance of looking after themselves physically and emotionally
- to understand the process of conception
- to be able to identify what they are looking forward to about becoming a teenager and understand that this brings growing responsibilities
These objectives are in line with current guidance published by the Department of Education. To support the teaching of RSE objectives we use a scheme called ‘Jigsaw’, the details of which will be communicated to parents later this term.
If you have any further questions about the content and materials used in these lessons, please feel free to contact us or make an appointment.
Thank you,
Mrs Campbell, Mr Gough and Miss Theobalds
