Friday 11th June 2021
Dear Year 6 parent/carer,
We are looking forward to a busy, hard-working and fun end of year. Although some restrictions remain in place, we are still planning many of the traditional end-of-year 6 activities and hope to give the children a memorable send off to secondary school. Below are the key dates and information for this term:
Assessment and Celebratory Park Week
Although the official SATs tests have been cancelled for the year, we will still be completing a round of mock SATs to aid with our teacher assessment. These will be spread out over the weeks beginning June 21st and June 28th to allow all children to receive the support and timings they need to succeed. To celebrate all their hard work, we will go to Wells Park on Tuesday 6th July to play games and relax. Children do not to bring anything for this and will have their usual lunch at school.
Yearbook
We will be making a yearbook for the children to remember their time at Kelvin Grove. This is something that they can cherish and look back on in the days, weeks, months and years to come. The school has agreed to subsidise part of the cost for this special souvenir, reducing the price from £10 to £5 per child. Order forms will be sent out later in the term.
End of Year 6 Performances – Goodbye My Friend
Our play this year is called ‘Goodbye My Friend’. This year, each class will be putting on a separate show to allow the audience to safely socially distance in the hall,if required. All children will be given a part and a copy of their script: please encourage your child to learn their lines and the song lyrics at home as much as possible. Below are the performance dates and times:
- Tuesday 13th July at 2:00pm in the Main Hall– Copper Class Performance
- Wednesday 14th July at 2:00pm in the Main Hall– Brass Class Performance
- Thursday 15th July at 2:00pm in the Main Hall– Bronze Class Performance
Go Ape Bedgebury Trip – Monday 19th July
To celebrate the end of year, we will be taking the children to Go Ape in Bedgebury for a treetop adventure. Children will spend an hour exploring the canopy and completing a high ropes obstacle course. They will also have time to play games, enjoy a picnic lunch and explore the surrounding forest. We will travel by coach and children will need to bring a packed lunch. Exact timings will be confirmed closer to the date but we anticipate that children will need to arrive at school at 7:30am to allow for sufficient travel time and we will return at approximately 4:30pm. The school will also subsidise part of the cost for this trip, reducing the price from £30 to £10 per child which covers coach costs and all activities at Go Ape. Please make your payment on SIMs Pay / TRIPS or speak to the office if you need help with SIMs Pay.
Year 6 Leavers’ BBQ and Disco – Thursday 22nd July
This will be in the playground from 5pm until 7pm. Food will be provided.
Leavers’ Assembly – Friday 23rd July
Each class will have their own leavers’ assembly on Friday to allow for social distancing. Timings will be confirmed closer to the date.
We are looking forward to celebrating this last term with your children. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s class teacher. Thank you in advance for your support.
