Dear Parents and carers of children in Year 5,
RE: Year 5 move to Year 6
As we come to the end of another very eventful and hard-working year at Kelvin Grove, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support for the school to enable us to do the best for your children. Despite the interruption to our year, pupils have worked exceptionally hard and have celebrated many achievements. We are very proud of them.
Next year we are returning to a fixed daily timetable and we no longer have ‘arrival and collection windows’. Here are the start and finish times and where you need to go to drop off and collect your child. Pupils in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 can go straight to their classrooms when they arrive.

This week on Thursday all the children will visit the classroom they will be in next year and meet their new teacher. We will send home tonight a letter detailing your child’s registration group.
We wanted to communicate some important changes to the running of Year 6 for the new academic year. Due to a significant decrease in the number of children on roll in Year 5, it has been necessary to combine the current three classes into two new registration groups for Year 6. There will also be a smaller registration group for some children in Gold Class with Miss Togher.
In addition to their registration teachers, your children will be taught and supported by a large team of teachers and teaching assistants, meet the team below:
Meet the team:
Once the children have registered at 8:45am, the majority of children will work in three groups for Reading, English and Maths. There will be a fourth, smaller group in Gold Class for the core subjects. In the afternoons they will receive specialist teaching in smaller groups in Computing, Art, and P.E. as well as their wider curriculum lessons.
One of our main objectives for our Year 6 children is to enable them to develop the independence, resilience and organisational skills that they will need for their transition to secondary school. The new Year 6 structure provides this opportunity and we are excited to work in this way. We know that the children will enjoy this change and their increased responsibilities as the eldest children in the school.
If you have any questions, please approach any member of the Year 6 team. Thank you for your continued support. I would like to wish you all a lovely break over the Summer and we look forward to see you all on Monday 6th September 2021.
