Thursday 9th September 2021
Dear Parents and Carers of Year 5 pupils,
Re: Year 5 Curriculum – Autumn 1 2021
Welcome to Year 5! Below we have outlined some key information regarding this term that we hope you will find useful.
Curriculum Meeting
We would like to invite you to join us for our Curriculum Meeting where we will share information regarding Year 5 and this term. This will be held on Thursday 23rd September at 3:30pm in the Paxton Building. We hope to see you there.
Curriculum
Our topic this term is ‘Into Africa’. We will be focusing our learning in English and topic lessons on two texts: The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan and The Village That Vanished by Ann Grifalconi. In Maths our main focus will be on place value.
P.E. Lessons
Your child will be changing into their P.E. kits at school, so please ensure they bring the appropriate kit (white T-shirt, dark bottoms), including trainers/plimsols on Wednesdays each week.
Uniform
Encourage your child to wear full school uniform and ensure they have a coat appropriate for the weather. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings.
Walking Home from School
Children in Years 5 and 6 are allowed to walk home by themselves. You have already received an email asking that if you do not want your child to be dismissed without an adult, you must communicate this via email to: year5@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk
Other information
As our lunch break is later than the children were used to in Year 4, they are allowed to bring a healthy snack e.g. a piece of fruit or vegetable sticks. It is ESSENTIAL that your child does not bring in anything containing nuts and seeds as we have a number of children with severe allergies. Please also ensure your child brings to school a filled and labelled water bottle (not metal) each day.
Thank you for all your support, and as always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Mrs Campbell, Miss Crooks and Miss Hudson
