Dear parents/carers of Year 3 pupil
Re: Year 3 Curriculum, Autumn 1 2021
Welcome to Year 3! The children have had an excellent first week back at school and we have been delighted with their attitude towards their learning. Thank you for your support with the children arriving on time for school in the mornings. At present, teachers are collecting Y3 children from the playground at 8.40am. Next week, the children will independently make their way to class from the playground to start learning at 8.45am. At home time, Y3 collection is at 3.15. Please stick to these times to allow for prompt collection. If you are running late or are changing your collection arrangements, please call the school office.
We are proud to have a vibrant and diverse school community at Kelvin Grove. Our aim is that our school curriculum reflects and celebrates this diversity all year round. This means that we are committed to ensuring that pupils of all races, backgrounds and abilities see representations of themselves and their families in the content of our lessons. We do this by being very purposeful in our choices of the authors whose books we read, and in our selection of the history and culture we choose to study. We will show you some of the books we will be studying in our Curriculum Meeting.
P.E. Lessons (outdoor)
Each Y3 class will have a P.E. lesson every Monday. Your child will need to wear their P.E. kit to school on Mondays. Kit should consist of a plain white t-shirt and dark bottoms (black or grey) and trainers/plimsols. In cold weather, your child can wear a grey or black sweat shirt or their school sweatshirt. This term we are focus on foundational skills to develop spatial awareness, throwing, running and jumping.
Home Learning
This term, we would like the home learning focus to be reading, reading, reading! We have spoken to Y3 children about the importance of reading and have asked your child to read everyday. We would like you to support your child with reading by listening to them read a few times a week and making a note in their reading record and encouraging them to record in their reading record too. Children will change their books every Monday. You can also help your child by promoting other types of texts e.g. online reading, magazines, newspapers and online books. We will give you more information about home learning at the Curriculum Meeting.
CURRICULUM MEETING
Our Curriculum Meeting will be held on Monday 20th September 2021 in the Main Hall at 3.45pm. This term, our Learning Journey is called Lights, Camera, Action. In this meeting, we will talk through the Curriculum this term and the coming year and answer any questions you may have! We look forward to seeing you there.
Finally, as we move towards autumn, children will need a coat appropriate for the weather. In light drizzle, we still like to take the children out to play if they have coats. Please remember, it is important that your child does not wear jewellery to school, apart form stud earrings, unless it is for religious reasons. Children are encouraged to bring in reusable water bottles with their names clearly labelled. Please label your child’s jumpers as they are easier to return to their owners.
We are looking forward to working with you and your child over the course of the year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you,
Year 3 Team
