Re: Blue Class Curriculum – Spring 2 2022
Welcome back! We hope you had a fantastic break. Below I have outlined some key information regarding this term that we hope you will find useful.
Curriculum
Our topic this term is ‘Amazing Animals’. In English we will be focussing on ‘Hair Love’ by Matthew Cherry for World Book Week. We will then we writing a narrative based on the story ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers before writing non-chronological reports on penguins. In Maths some children are focussing on addition and subtraction of numbers within 10, doubling and halving within 10 and to place teen numbers on a number line. Some children are working on multiplication by repeated addition, multiplication by identifying equal groups, understanding arrays and using multiplication to solve problems.
Daily Reading
Children will bring home two reading books a week:
- A book banded book suitable to your child’s reading ability, which they need to read aloud to an adult.
- A library book which can be changed each week.
Please read with your child daily. Children’s books will be changed on Fridays.
P.E. Lessons
Your child will be wearing their PE kits all day so please ensure they have the appropriate kit (white T-shirt, dark bottoms), including trainers/plimsols.
The P.E. days are as follows:
All of Blue Class will have P.E. on a Wednesday.
Mainstream P.E. Lessons
Year 2
Year 2 will have P.E. on Mondays
Year 3
All Year 3 will have P.E. on these Mondays: 28th February, 14th March, 28th March
Additionally, they will have P.E. on:
Mint Class: Mondays 7th March, 14th March
Emerald Class: Tuesdays 8th March, 15th March
Jade Class: Fridays 11th March and 25th March
Year 4
Cobalt Class: 25th February and 4th March
Azure Class: 11th and 18th March
Turquoise Class: 25th March and 1st April
Uniform
Encourage your child to wear full school uniform and ensure they have a coat appropriate for the weather. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings.
Trips
I am pleased to say that Bellingham, Leisure Centre has opened its doors again for our monthly soft play sessions! The next session will be Thursday 17th March. We will be leaving school at 9.30 and back before lunch.
Other information
Please ensure your child brings to school a filled and labelled water bottle each day.

Helping you child with handwriting at home: Please see the attached sheet on letter formations and how we approach these at school. Your child may benefit from continued practice at home for short bursts of time.
