Our topic in Year 2 this term is ‘Let it Grow’ – what plants need to grow well, so we had an exciting start to our learning with a trip to Wells Park on Tuesday. We had two main tasks: identifying different trees by looking at the shape and colour of their leaves, and collecting natural items for Art to make a collage in the style of Andy Goldsworthy, a British artist and environmentalist.
Saffron class collected lots of leaves, petals and twigs for their environmental art, and worked very hard, sharing resources to create their collages. The children created forests, flower gardens, trees for squirrels, nests for birds and a myriad of other fabulous works. After being artists they then became art critics: they walked around the ‘gallery’ of finished work, and took turns to come up and talk about which pieces they liked and why. They all did an amazing job, we are excited to share some of their work with you here.

Theodor: ‘I made a nest for a bird that has just hatched from an egg’
Liya Blessing: ‘a fruitful tree with a love heart I cut out from a red leaf’ (He spent a lot of time cutting a big leaf into smaller pieces.)
Jayden: ‘a big tree full of leaves’
