Dear Parents and Carers of Year 2 pupils,
RE: Year 2 Curriculum – Summer 1, 2022
Welcome back to school. We hope that you have all had a wonderful Easter break! We’re happy to be back and looking forward to an exciting term. Our learning journey topic this term is ‘Let It Grow’, where the children will be learning about what plants need to grow and stay healthy. See below the mind map for this topic. Key vocabulary and the homework project will be sent home by Monday in your child’s book bags.
Staff changes
We are welcoming Miss Theobalds to the Year 2 team to teach in Saffron on Thursdays and Fridays. Miss Theobalds is an experienced Kelvin Grove teacher, who has recently relocated to Sussex, and has reduced her working days in school and moved from Year 4.
Reading
We really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 2. Children need to continue to bring their book bags to school every day. The adults in each class will change your child’s book with their reading band level on Thursday or Friday.
PE – Mondays
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit every Monday. School PE kit consists of trainers or plimsoles, plain black or grey shorts/trousers, a white T-shirt and their red school jumper.
Year 2 Assessments
Teachers and support staff will be carrying out assessments in school for reading and maths during May. There is no need to prepare children for this at all at home and we will aim to make this as calm and undisruptive as possible for children.
Uniform
We have a number of children in Year 2 who are not wearing the correct uniform or wearing jewellery. Please help us ensure your child is ready to learn by following the guidelines on uniform below:
- black school shoes
- white shirts or polo shirts
- red sweatshirts / cardigans / fleeces
- dark grey trousers or shorts
- dark grey dresses, trousers or skirts & red / white gingham dresses or skirts.
- red / black / grey tights
- small stud earrings
- no other jewellery for safety reasons
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
The Year 2 Team
