Dear Parents and Carers of Blue Class pupils,
RE: Blue Class Curriculum – Summer 1, 2022
Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful Easter Break.
Curriculum
Our topic this term is ‘Getting to the Root of it’. Please take a look at our mind map on the school website for information on our learning journey.
Daily Reading
Children will bring home two reading books a week:
- A book banded book suitable to your child’s reading ability, which they need to read aloud to an adult.
- A library book which can be changed each week.
Please read with your child daily. Children’s books will be changed on Fridays.
P.E. Lessons
Your child will be wearing their PE kits all day so please ensure they have the appropriate kit (white T-shirt, dark bottoms) on their P.E. days
Blue Class: Wednesdays
Year 2 children: Mondays
Year 3 children: Mondays: 25th April, 9th May, 16th May 23rd May
Year 4 children: Tuesdays and the following Fridays:
Cobalt Class: 22nd and 29th April
Azure Class: 6th and 13th May
Turquoise Class: 20th and 27th May
Uniform
Encourage your child to wear full school uniform and ensure they have a coat appropriate for the weather. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings.
Homework
Spellings will be sent home on a Friday to be returned by the following Thursday. Homework will be assigned weekly on Mathletics. Times tables can be practised online using websites such as Times Tables Rock Stars (ttrockstars.com). TTRS does not have a hand in date. Children are encouraged to follow their mainstream year group for topic projects at home.
Other information
Please ensure your child brings to school a filled and labelled water bottle each day. Thank you for all your support, and as always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Helping your child with spellings at home
Some children would continue to benefit from regular phonics games to help improve their reading https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ (username: kelvin, Password: grove).
Please also see the attached Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 common exception words to support your child with these tricky words.

Helping you child with handwriting at home: Please see the attached sheet on letter formations and how we approach these at school. Your child may benefit from continued practice at home for short bursts of time.
