Dear parents carers of Year 5 pupils,
RE: Year 5 Curriculum – Summer 2, 2022
We hope you had a restful break and are looking forward to the final term of the year. We have an interesting few weeks ahead of us, with a lot of work and fun to be had! Our Learning Journey topic this term is titled: ‘Out of this World’, where we will be focusing much of our learning around the Earth, moon and planets.
P.E. Lessons
Please ensure your child wears the appropriate kit to school on the following days, including trainers and shorts, as the weather warms up. Also, if your child has long hair, this will need to be tied up on their P.E. days.
Lavender Class and Violet Class will have P.E. every Wednesday.
Indigo Class will have P.E. every Thursday.
Homework
Reading: We encourage your child to read at home on a daily basis. You can support us with this by asking your child to read aloud to you – this could be a whole chapter you share together or a selected extract of what they have read that day. Reading aloud will help develop their fluency, but will also help to open up a discussion about what they are reading. Each time your child has read, they must record this in their Reading Record Book and then please could you sign it.
Maths and Spelling: As before, maths homework is set each Friday either pages from the CGP books or on Mathletics. Spellings will be taught throughout the week. Please encourage your child to practise and learn the words that fit the weekly rule/pattern each day, and they will also be given spelling homework on a Friday.
Home Learning Project: To build on what we will be learning about the planets, create a scaled representation our Solar System. Consider the relative sizes of the planets, the Sun, and Earth’s moon and the relative distances between all of these celestial bodies. You can choose how to present your work (e.g. art, a model). This is due in to school on Wednesday 13th July 2022.
Other information:
Please remember the healthy snack for playtime e.g. a piece of fruit or a cereal bar, for snack time. No crisps or chocolate bars please. It is also essential that your child brings in a filled water bottle each day.
Please ensure your child is at school promptly, as they are missing out on their learning if not. School starts at 8:40am.
Please encourage your child to wear full school uniform, apart from on P.E. days. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings.
Thank you, and as always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch (year5@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk).
Mrs. Campbell, Miss. Crooks and Miss. Hudson
