Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: Year 1 – Seaside Trip Information
We are all very much looking forward to the Year 1 trip to Joss Bay on the 18th July. This letter is just a reminder of the timings of the trip and how we can make sure the children are well prepared for their wonderful day at the seaside.
We are travelling by coach which leaves Kelvin Grove at 8:30am. Please ensure that children are brought into school at 8:10am to the main gates. This will allow us to register pupils; ensure everyone has what they need – including a Kelvin Grove high vis; and has a chance to go to the toilet.
Pupils NOT attending the trip must be brought to the main office at the normal time where we can register them.
The weather for the day looks fine and warm. Please ensure:
- Pupils do not need to wear uniform. They need to wear sensible and appropriate clothing E.g. t-shirt and shorts, hats/caps.
- As pupils are dipping their toes in the water, full-length trousers need to be easily rolled up. There will be no swimming so no need for any swimwear.
- Trainers are best shoes for the day. Shoes will be removed for toe-dipping in the water and if pupils want to when building sandcastles.
- If you can send your child in with spare clothes in the event of a child getting wet, then that would be helpful. If you are also able to provide your child with a small towel, please do but there will be towels available to dry wet feet.
- Any items brought in can be placed inside a small rucksack or a named plastic bag.
- Please ensure your child has a bottle of water. We are taking plenty of water to refill bottles throughout the day and we have access to drinking water on the beach.
- Please remember to apply sun cream before your child comes to school. We will have sun screen with us on the trip; if your child has an allergy to sun screen which we are unaware, of could you please let us know.
- The coach trip is approximately 2 hours long. If your child has a tendency to become travel sick, then let their teacher know so we can make their journey as comfortable as possible.
If you have chosen to provide a homemade packed lunch for your child, please ensure it’s healthy and remember that it should NOT contain fizzy drinks, sweets/chocolate, or any nuts (due to pupil allergies), the packed lunch needs to be fully disposable and in a named carrier bag.
The coach will be leaving Joss Bay shortly after 2pm and arriving back at Kelvin Grove at 4:30pm. Parents arriving to collect their children can enter the school via the Year 5 and 6 gate (Paxton playground). Pupils will be brought into the playground from the coach, lined up and dismissed in the normal way by the class teacher.
Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside!
Yours sincerely,
The Year 1 team
