Dear Parents and Carers of Year 2,
RE: Year 2 Curriculum – Autumn 2, 2022
Welcome back to school. We hope that you have all had a wonderful half term break! We’re happy to be back and looking forward to an exciting term. Our learning journey topic this term is ‘Pole to Pole’, where the children will be learning about the human and physical geography of both polar regions. In science, children will be learning about animals in different habitats. We have attached key vocabulary that children will be using in this topic.
Reading
We really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 2. Children need to continue to bring their book bags to school every day. The adults in each class will change your child’s book with their reading band level on Wednesdays.
We will start to set weekly reading on Collins Big Cat library. We sent children’s login home last half term, if you need these again, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
PE – Thursdays
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit every Thursday. School PE kit consists of trainers or plimsoles, plain black or grey shorts/trousers, a white T-shirt and their red school jumper. Please do not send your child into school wearing football shirts or other non-uniform clothing.
Mathletics homework
We will start setting weekly maths homework on Mathletics on Mondays. Children’s logins are printed in their reading records. If you need support accessing the platform or need the login details re-printed, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Project home work:
We would like children to design a polar region habitat box. We will be learning about animals from the North and South Poles and how different animals live in different habitats around the world. Please could completed boxes be brought into school w.b. Monday 5th December for children to share. If you need any resources, please ask.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
