Dear Parents and Carers of Year 5 pupils,
RE: Year 5 Curriculum – Autumn 2, 2022
Welcome to Autumn 2 and thank you for your support since September. We have an interesting term ahead of us, with a lot of work and fun to be had! Our Learning Journey topic this term is titled: ‘Why should we remember?’. Below we have outlined some important information regarding this term.
P.E. Lessons
Please ensure your child has the appropriate kit in school on the following days, including trainers and tracksuit bottoms when the weather turns colder.
P.E. lessons are on Mondays each week.
Homework
Reading: Reading with your child and discussing what has been read each day is essential to helping them make progress in all areas of the curriculum. The expectation is that your child reads out-loud to you and that they record this in their Reading Record Book, and for you to sign it. This should happen a minimum of 4 times a week. We have also set a book on Collins eBooks which your child has brought home login details of. Please do encourage them to read this too.
Maths: Maths homework is set each Friday and will be pages from their CGP Maths book or Challenges on Mathletics. This is to be completed by the Friday of the following week.
Times Tables: Please practice all times tables and their related division facts frequently.
Spellings: A spelling rule will be introduced on Mondays, and throughout the week lessons and activities will be completed based on this rule. Each day your child will bring home their Spelling Book which they should use to practise the spellings for that week. Spelling Homework is set on a Friday each week and this needs to be completed by the following Friday. Please support them with this.
Home Learning Project: Your Home Learning Project this term is to build a model of an Anderson shelter from World War 2. An information sheet will be put on the school website with background information and ideas. Please can the models be brought into school by Wednesday 7th December 2022.
Other information:
Year 5 pupils can bring into school a healthy snack eg. a piece of fruit. Also, please ensure that your child does not bring in food that contains nuts.
Encourage your child to wear full school uniform. As the weather becomes colder, please ensure they have a warm coat and that all hats, scarves and gloves are named. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings.
Thank you, and as always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
