Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: Wandle Intervention
As you will be aware, your child has been involved in a reading intervention – Rapid Catch Up. This intervention aims to re-teach aspects of phonics which children are not secure with and read texts fluently and accurately.
In the autumn term, the session was run during the school day but we have now managed to move it to before school so that pupils are not missing aspects of the wider curriculum.
The session will begin on Monday 9th January at 8:15am and end at 8:40am just before pupils are due in class for registration. It will be run by Mrs Khan who has been running this intervention throughout the autumn term. If you would like your child to have breakfast and your child currently does not attend breakfast club, then please feel free to drop them off at 8:00am so they can eat breakfast beforehand. This is through the gate which leads to the reception classes. Any siblings can also attend breakfast club for the full duration and will be taken to class for registration. Otherwise, please bring your child to the main office for 8:10am so the session can start promptly.
This intervention is absolutely essential and will make a huge difference to your child’s confidence in reading.
As usual, each week we will assign your child this same text on the online library. This means that your child can practise reading it at home with you. Reading the same book allows children to develop their fluency and confidence.
If you have any questions about this intervention please email the school office admin@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk or speak to me on the Year 2 gate before or after school.
Many thanks for your support,
Miss Magee
