Dear Parents and Carers of Year 5 pupils,
RE: Year 5 Curriculum – Spring 2, 2023
We hope you had a relaxing break and that you, like us, are looking forward to the weather warming up a little! Our Learning Journey topic this term is all about Ancient Egypt. The Depth Enquiry Question is: Cleopatra – Villain or Hero?
Below we have outlined some important information.
P.E. Lessons
Please ensure your child wears into school the appropriate kit on Mondays, including trainers and tracksuit bottoms as the weather is colder.
Homework
Reading: Reading with your child and discussing what has been read each day is essential to helping them make progress in all areas of the curriculum. The expectation is that your child reads out-loud to you and that they record this in their Reading Record Book, and for you to sign it. This should happen a minimum of 4 times a week.
Maths: Maths homework is set each Friday and will either be pages from their CGP Maths book or tasks will be set on Mathletics ( https://www.mathletics.com/uk/ ), which your child has login details for. This is to be completed by the Friday of the following week.
Times Tables: Please practise all times tables and their related division facts frequently. Your child also has login details for Times Tables Rockstars ( https://ttrockstars.com/ ). Please encourage your child to use these website to practise their speed of recall of all times tables on a regular basis.
Spellings: A spelling rule will be introduced each Monday, and throughout the week lessons and activities will be completed based on this rule. Each day your child will bring home their Spelling Book which they should use to practise the spellings for that week. Spelling Homework is set on a Friday each week and this needs to be completed by the following Friday. Please support them with this.
Home Learning Project: Your Home Learning Project this term is to create a 3d pyramid, sarcophagus or canopic jar. More information about this will be given to your child this week.
Other information:
Year 5 pupils can bring into school a healthy snack eg. a piece of fruit. If your child brings in what we would consider to be an unhealthy snack, they will not be allowed to eat it, and it will be returned to them for their packed lunch or at the end of the school day if they eat school dinners. Also, please ensure that your child does not bring in food that contains nuts.
Encourage your child to wear full school uniform. As the weather is cooler, please ensure they have a warm coat and that all hats, scarves and gloves are named. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings.
Thank you, and as always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Mrs. Campbell, Miss. Crooks and Miss. Hudson
