Dear Parents and Carers of Year 2,
RE: Year 2 Curriculum – Summer 1, 2023
Welcome back to school. We hope that you have all had a wonderful Easter break! We’re happy to be back and looking forward to an exciting term. Our learning journey topic this term is ‘Soil, Seeds and Sunshine’, where the children will be learning about what plants need to grow and stay healthy. We have attached the mind map for this topic. The homework project will be sent home by Monday in your child’s book bags.
Walk to Wells Park
We will be going on a plant identification walk and nature scavenge hunt on Monday 17th April to Wells Park. As each class will be going at a different time, we will have enough adults amongst the Year 2 team, so do not require any adult helpers this time, but we will be grateful for your help on future trips!
Reading
We really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 2. Children need to continue to bring their book bags to school every day. The adults in each class will change your child’s book with their reading band level on Wednesdays. We will continue to set weekly reading on Collins Big Cat library. We will send these login details home again over the next week, as lots of parents requested these at parent’s evening.
PE – Thursdays
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit every Thursday. School PE kit consists of trainers or plimsoles, plain black or grey shorts/trousers, a white T-shirt and their red school jumper.
Mathletics homework
We will continue setting weekly maths homework on Mathletics on Mondays. The homework we set on Mathletics is a consolidation task of the work we have been doing at school. Children’s logins are printed in their reading records.
Year 2 Assessments
Teachers and support staff will be carrying out assessments in school for reading and maths during May. There is no need to prepare children for this at all at home and we will aim to make this as calm and undisruptive as possible for children.
Project Homework
We will be providing children with a potted seed and a plant diary for them to start completing over the Easter break and into the new term. Please take photos of your plant’s growth progress and share them with us at: year2@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
