Friday 5th May 2023
Dear Year 6 parents and carers,
RE: Year 6 SATs Week 2023
SATs Tests for Year 6 pupils will take place next week between Tuesday 9th and Friday 12th May.
During this week, children will sit tests in:
- Reading
- Maths
- Spelling, punctuation and grammar
The timetable of tests is as follows:
Tuesday 9th May | Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar: Paper 1 – Questions (45 minutes) Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar: Paper 2 – Spelling Test (15 minutes) |
Wednesday 10th May | Reading (1 hour) |
Thursday 11th May | Maths Paper 1: Arithmetic (30 minutes) Maths Paper 2: Reasoning (40 minutes) |
Friday 12th May | Maths Paper 3: Reasoning (40 minutes) |
At school we very much encourage the children to ‘try their very best’ and to be resilient in their approach even if they find some aspects of the tests challenging. We talk openly and honestly about why these tests are important to them. It is a time when the children can really show their learning and celebrate their successes in the core areas of Maths and English.
During SATs week, we would like to invite your child to come to school from 8:30am to enjoy a light breakfast snack in their registration class on the mornings of Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th, Thursday 11th and Friday 12th May. The purpose of this is to enable the children to spend time with their peers and teachers in a relaxed and calm space, ahead of their tests.
We highly recommend all children come in from 8:30am, but if not, it is crucial that your child is in school by the normal start time of 8.45am each day. We will call you if your child is not here by 9am.
At this stage, the best way to support your child is to ensure they get plenty of sleep and are in school on time each day. Children should also ensure they have a reading book that they can enjoy over the week as we will be using reading books a little more during SATs week. This can be a book from home or a school book.
After the children have completed their final test, we will celebrate the end of SATs week with pizza and a movie on the afternoon of Friday 12th May. Parents and carers do not need to supply any food or drink for this event but if your child is unable to to eat pizza due to an allergy, please feel free to send in an alternative snack for your child.
We are proud of the progress the children have made this year and know they will give their best efforts next week. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the team.
