Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: Year 6 Swimming Lessons
Next term, swimming lessons are being provided for Year 6 pupils at Forest Hill Pool. The provision of swimming lessons is a statutory part of the National Curriculum and your child will be expected to participate.
This is a great opportunity for children of all abilities to develop their confidence in water and be taught by a qualified swimming instructor. Your child will attend a daily swimming lesson every day for a period of 1 week as part of an intensive teaching approach. Each swimming lesson is 1 hour long which will give every child the chance to improve their swimming skills.
During the first lesson, a qualified swimming instructor will carry out an assessment of each child to ensure that they are placed in a teaching group that matches their skill level. In order to help the pool staff with their assessments, please complete the form below ‘School Swimming Assessment Form’ by Monday 5th June 2023.
Swimming lesson for each class will be as follows:
Class: | Dates: | Time: |
Brass Class | Monday 5th June – Friday 9th June | AM: 11:00 – 12:00 |
Copper Class | Monday 5th June – Friday 9th June | PM: 2:00 – 3:00 |
Bronze Class | Monday 26th June – Friday 30th June | PM: 2:00 – 3:00 |
On swimming lesson days, your child will need to bring appropriate swimwear (not white and no bikinis), a towel and a plastic bag for wet items. All jewellery should be removed in advance and long hair needs to be tied back securely. Children can wear goggles if they would like to and swimming hats are advised.
For each swimming session, school staff will walk the children to and from the pool and remain with them during the lesson. As the afternoon lessons are from 2pm – 3pm, we will need to adjust home time for children in those classes. If your child has an afternoon swimming lesson, please note they will be dismissed from school at approximately 3.30pm on swimming days only.
Many thanks,
Y6 Team
