Dear Y6 Parents and Carers
Important Information for Y6 Pupils – Summer Activities
It may be hard to believe, but your children have just four weeks left in primary school! We are looking forward to a busy, hard-working and fun end to the school year.
Our theme for this last half term is: Macbeth, Memories and Moving on Up! A copy of the curriculum mindmap is available on the school website for you to view. Our aim for the remainder of the term is threefold: to keep as many of the children’s normal routines in place as possible; to prepare them for the transition to secondary school; and to celebrate and mark their achievements during their time at Kelvin Grove. Below are the key dates and information you need to know for this term:
- Friday 14th July – Y6 Sports Day at Wells Park (9:30 am – 12:00 pm)
- Wednesday 19th July – Y6 End of Year Party (Prom)
- Thursday 20th July – Y6 Leavers’ Performance (9:30 am start) & last day of term, finish at 1:30 pm (NO ClubXtra).
Yearbook
As is our tradition, we will be making a yearbook for the children as a memento of their time at Kelvin Grove. The children are currently working hard towards this. Every child is featured and the final product is printed and bound externally to a high professional standard. The yearbook is something to cherish and a special souvenir that they can look back on in the days, weeks, months and years to come. Order forms will be sent out later in the term.
Secondary transition
All Y6 pupils will take part in a secondary transition workshop at school. They will have the opportunity to find out practical information as well as having the opportunity to discuss feelings around moving on. We will continue to follow up on this in PHSE lessons and provide support to Individual children as necessary. Individual secondary schools will write to you directly with the dates and times of their visit days for incoming Year 7s. Please keep an eye out for these communications and inform the school office of dates when your children will be out of school attending them.
Year 6 Leavers’ Party – Wednesday 19th July
This will be in the Main Hall from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Food will be provided.
Year 6 Leavers’ Performance – Thursday 20th July, 9:30 am
This will take place on the morning of the last day of term – please mark the date in your diaries. You will be asked nearer to the time how many seats you require (usually a maximum of two per family).
Uniform and Hot Weather
To continue to keep routines and maintain high expectations we would appreciate your support with school uniform. Please note that children are expected to be in full school uniform until the last day of term (Thursday 20th July). If there are any difficulties with this, please speak to the school office or your child’s teacher.
Our PE days will continue to be on alternate Mondays and every Wednesday; children are expected to wear their Kelvin Grove PE kit and if they would like to wear a jumper for PE it should be their Kelvin Grove jumper. In this hotter weather, please reinforce what we teach the children in PHSE about hygiene. We have discussed the importance of: daily washing, using deodorant as appropriate and changing their school shirt regularly.
We are looking forward to enjoying the rest of term with your children.
Thank you in advance for your support.
