Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6 pupil,
RE: Year 6 Curriculum and Secondary Transfer Meeting
Welcome to Year 6! The children have had an excellent first week back at school and we have been delighted with their attitude towards their learning.
We would like to invite you to our Year 6 Curriculum Meeting which will be held on Thursday 21st September at 3:30pm in the Paxton Hall. At this meeting, we will: introduce you to the team, share topic coverage and events that will be happening throughout the year, discuss ways to support your child at home and communicate our expectations. We will also be using this meeting to share important information with you about the process of applying to secondary school, which will be supported by a spokesperson from Lewisham’s admissions team. Please inform your child’s class teacher if you are unable to attend the meeting.
At Kelvin Grove, we know that your role is crucial in supporting your children to become confident and fluent readers. Not only this, but your dedication to listening to your children read, and sharing stories with them helps them to develop a lifelong love of books. We will be talking to you about home reading expectations this year, how you can support at home and the use of the Year 6 planner.
We will also give you information about:
- Timetabling/P.E.
- Home learning
- Our residential trip to France
When coming in for the meeting, please wait outside the bottom gate (where children come out at the end of the day) and Mr Clark will let you come in at about 15:25. If you arrive after the gate is closed, you can come in through the main reception.
Finally, as we move towards Autumn, children will need a coat appropriate for the weather. In light drizzle, we still like to take the children out to play if they have coats. Please remember, it is important that your child does not wear jewellery to school, apart from stud earrings, unless it is for religious reasons. Children are encouraged to bring in reusable water bottles with their names clearly labelled. Please label your child’s jumpers as they are easier to return to their owners.
We are looking forward to working with you and your child over the course of the year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you,
Year 6 Team
