Friday 20th October 2023
Dear Year 6 parents and carers,
As the launch into our new topic: ‘Pump it Up’ (about the heart and circulatory system), Year 6 are going on a trip to the Centre of the Cell at Queen Mary, University of London on Thursday 9th November (Brass and Copper classes) and Friday 10th November (Bronze class). Here, the children will watch a show called ‘In a Heartbeat’ and have the opportunity to take part in an interactive pod session. If you would like to know more about what the children will be experiencing at the Centre of the Cell, please visit their website: https://www.centreofthecell.org/workshops-and-shows/in-a-heartbeat/.
We will be leaving school promptly at 09:15, taking the overground from Sydenham Station to Whitechapel. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.45 am as we are unable to wait for latecomers. We hope to be back by the end of the school day, but should we be late, we will inform you by text.
Your child must have a packed lunch and a bottle of water unless they are in receipt of free school meals, in which case the school kitchen will provide a packed lunch and a bottle of water – please order these online through the form below by Friday 3rd November 2023. There are not to be any nuts, fizzy drinks or chocolate. Lunch needs to be fully disposable and in a named plastic carrier bag. Your child will need to wear school uniform, school shoes and a waterproof coat.
There is a cost of £10 per child for this trip. However, if your child is in receipt of free school meals, the cost of this trip will be £5. Please make your payment on SCOPAY and complete the permission slips below by Friday 3rd November.
Thank you,
Miss West, Miss Horgan and Miss Hudson.
