Dear Parents/Carers of Year 2,
RE: Autumn 2 Curriculum Overview
Welcome back to school. We’ve had a good first few weeks back and looking forward to an exciting term. Our topic this term is ‘Moving with the Times’, where the children will be learning about how transport in London has changed over the years and how to use sources and timelines. In science, children will be looking at how humans stay healthy, focusing on hygiene, diet and exercise. In English, we have two main books that also have forms of transport. We start with ‘Beegu’ whose transport of choice is very unusual, and then we will move on to ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’. We have attached key vocabulary that children will be using in both these books and in their topics.
Reading
We really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 2. Children need to continue to bring their book bags to school every day. The adults in each class will change your child’s book with their reading band level on Thursdays and send the new books home on Fridays.
PE
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit on their PE days. School PE kit consists of trainers or plimsoles, plain black or grey shorts/trousers, a white T-shirt and their red school jumper. Please do not send your child into school wearing football shirts or other non-uniform clothing.
PE is usually on Wednesdays except for the following dates for Cinnamon Class only:
Thursday 23rd November
Thursday 7th December
Mathletics homework
We will be setting weekly maths homework on Mathletics on Fridays. Children’s logins are printed in their reading records. If you need support accessing the platform or need the login details re-printed, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
School trip
In the first week of December, we will be visiting the London Transport Museum as part of our ‘Moving with the Times’ topic. (Each class will be going on subsequent days.) We will send out a letter with details nearer to the time.
Project home work:
We would like children to show what they remember from last term’s topic ‘Animals and Me’. Please could children record the four stages of a life cycle of a frog, a butterfly or another animal that goes through the process of metamorphosis (a big change). Alternatively, they could write a fact file on an animal of their choice, like their wolf fact file (appearance, diet, habitat, fun fact.) Here are some examples of what they could do.

Thank you in advance for your continued support.
