Dear Parents and Carers of Year 3 pupils,
Re: Year 3 Curriculum – Spring 1 2024
Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful break. Below we have outlined some key information regarding this term that we hope you will find useful.
Curriculum
Our topic this term is ‘Quakes and Shakes‘ where we will be learning about volcanoes and earthquakes and the impact it has on human life. This will be linked to our Science topic, which is Rocks and Soils. In English we will be studying the books ‘Small in the City’ by Sydney Smith and ‘Winter’s Child’ by Angela Mcallister. We will be learning to identify different noun phrases, adding adjectives to noun phrases, punctuating dialogue and using conjunctions to join clauses. In Maths our main focus will be consolidating the 2x, 10, and 5x tables before learning our 3, 4 and 8 multiplication and division facts.
Daily Reading
Children who read regularly at home make good progress in all areas of the curriculum. Please support your child in reading daily and record this in their reading record. Reading records are checked each week by class teachers and we celebrate and recognise the efforts of the children who are regularly reading at home.
This term we are introducing a Reading Challenge to further support and encourage daily reading at home. We will introduce this to the children in school and look forward to working together to complete it.
P.E. Lessons
Your child will be wearing their PE kits all day so please ensure they have the appropriate kit (white T-shirt, dark bottoms), including trainers/plimsols on Tuesdays each week.
Uniform
Encourage your child to wear full school uniform and ensure they have a coat appropriate for the weather. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings. Please ensure their coats and jumpers are labelled with their names. This helps greatly with reuniting misplaced items with their owners.
Thank you for all your support, and as always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
