Violet Class have made an excellent start to 2024! We have enjoyed finding out what we’ll be learning about in our new topic ‘Guardians of the Planet!’ We had a class discussion about what we already know, as well as what we want to find out. In science, we made posters about the importance of plants and created mind maps to show what we already knew about living things and their habitats.
In reading, we made predictions about our new book ‘We Are Water Protectors’ by Carole Lindstrom. The book has a connection to our topic because the main character is a Water Protector and has to help when the water is threatened by a black snake but…is it really a snake or could the threat be link to the people? We have only just begun exploring this book but already it has made us think about other things on earth that need to be protected. We were inspired to create posters about things in the natural world that matter to us! We wanted our posters to raise awareness and have a visual impact and we are very proud of our results.
In English, we are already thinking about creating our own stories based on our current book – ‘The Promise’. We enjoyed the dull and gloomy illustrations at the start of the book because they reminded us of other books we know such as Varmints and The Lost Thing. We knew that a book with this kind of beginning would eventually reveal something interesting and we weren’t disappointed!
In maths, we have continued to work on statistics and interpreting data. We have answered questions about data which has given us a chance to practise reading information from line graphs. Then we drew our own line graphs from scratch and were very proud of how well we all did!
