Dear Y2 Parents & carers
RE: Y2 Trip to St Paul’s Cathedral
Our topic this term is ‘Out of the Ashes’ and all Y2 classes will be learning about the Great Fire of London. As part of this topic, we will be visiting St Paul’s Cathedral on Thursday 21st March 2024.
This trip will support the children’s understanding of what happened and the impact that it had on London and Londoners, as well as supporting them to answer their depth enquiry question for history: ‘Would the Great Fire of London Happen Today?
We will walk to Forest Hill Station, take the Overground train to Canada Water, change onto the Jubilee Line and take the tube to London Bridge Station. We will walk through Borough Market and over the Millennium Bridge to St Paul’s. On the walk back from St Paul’s, we will go via the Monument and over London Bridge back to the station. We will return to school before the end of the school day. If our return is delayed we will contact you via text message.
On the day of the trip, we need to be at St Paul’s Cathedral in time for our guided tour at 10.30 am, so we will be leaving school at 8.50 am. To ensure that we are organised for a prompt departure, please bring your child to school by 8.35 am on the day of the trip. If your child is late, they will miss the trip.
The cost of the trip is £4.00 which should be paid via SCOPAY / TRIPS & EVENTS.
The children will be doing a lot of walking during the day and will need to wear full school uniform and trainers or appropriate walking footwear (please no sandals or wellies!).
Children will need to bring a waterproof and warm coat with a hood. They will also need to bring a small rucksack so that they can carry their lunch, as well as a refillable water bottle. The children will eat their packed lunch in a lunch room inside St Paul’s Cathedral.
There is no requirement for schools to ask parental permission for trips that take place within the school day. However, if you have any concerns about your child attending this trip please speak to your child’s class teacher.
If you would like to pre-order a FREE school packed lunch for this trip, you must complete the online form below by Thursday 7th March 2024. This is to ensure that the kitchen staff have sufficient time to order in the correct food.
Alternatively, you can provide your child with a home-made healthy packed lunch which should NOT contain fizzy drinks, sweets, or NUTS (due to pupil allergies). Lunch needs to be fully disposable and in a named carrier bag.
In order for this for this trip to go ahead, we will need at least three parent helpers per class. Please do let your class teacher know if you would be available to support a group on this trip.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Y2 team
