Thursday 28th March 2024
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 2,
Our learning journey topic next term is called ‘Soil, Seeds and Sunshine’ and has a biology focus. The children will be learning about plants. They will learn to identify a range of common plants, look at their similarities and differences and learn what plants need to grow and stay healthy. Our work in English will be linked to the topic on plants. In maths, the children will be continuing their work on division and then moving on to learning about fractions.
Walk to Wells Park
To launch our new topic, we will be going on a brief plant identification walk in Wells Park on Monday 15th April. We are able to borrow other school staff for this outing, so won’t be needing parent helpers on this occasion.
Trip to Beckenham Place Park
A reminder that our trips to Beckenham Place Park are on the following dates:
Saffron and Cinnamon classes – Tuesday 23rd April 2024
Ochre Class – Tuesday 30th April 2024
Reading
Please continue to hear your child read frequently. It makes a huge difference to their rate of progress in reading. Please remember to return your child’s reading book on Thursday each week, so that they can take home a new book every Friday. Please do have a good look for any books that have gone missing at home.
Physical Education
Ochre and Saffron classes will continue to have their PE lessons every Wednesday.
Cinnamon Class will continue to have their PE lessons on these alternate Wednesdays and Thursdays:
Wednesday 17th April, Thursday 25th April, Wednesday 1st May, Thursday 9th May, Wednesday 15th May, Thursday 23rd May
Please send your child to school in their school PE uniform on their PE day. They should wear their red school jumper, a white T-shirt, plain grey or black jogging trousers and trainers.
Mathletics homework
We will continue setting weekly maths homework on Mathletics on Fridays. The homework that we set on Mathletics is a consolidation task of the work that we have been doing at school. Please do try to support your child to complete each short task. If you need the login details again, please ask your child’s teacher or TA.
Project Homework
We have provided the children with a plant diary and a potted seed each. Their job is to water the seed so that it germinates and then look after their plant and watch it grow over the two-week holidays and throughout next term. We would like their plants to get a head start over the holidays so that we can talk about the growth and changes during our Soil, Seeds & Sunshine topic. Please encourage your child to complete their plant diary once a week. If you would like to share photos of your child’s plant’s growth, please email them to year2@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
