RE: Primary School Swimming Update
Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to all parents and carers in KS2 to give an update on School Swimming. At Kelvin Grove, we provide children with one block of intensive swimming lessons (10 one-hour lessons) during their time in key stage 2. The aim of the intensive block is to develop children’s confidence and safety around water whilst also providing them with the opportunity to develop their swimming skills. The lessons are tailored for pupils of all abilities so they have the best opportunity to make individual progress. We use Forest Hill Pools for swimming lessons as it is our local pool and has the facility to run lessons in both the teaching pool and the main pool.
This academic year, we have been unable to take Year 4 pupils swimming due to changes in the administration at Forest Hill Pool and the subsequent impact on pool bookings. Below I have outlined the school’s plan between now and July 2026 with the current Year 4 pupils prioritised for swimming lessons next year.
| Dates | Year group(s) to swim |
| Summer Term 2024 | Current Year 6 (catch up swimming due to Covid interruption) |
| Autumn Term 2024 | Year 5 (current Year 4 pupils) |
| Spring Term 2025 | Year 4 (current Year 3 pupils) |
| September 2025 – July 2026 Term to be confirmed | Year 4 (current Year 2 pupils) |
Beyond July 2026, the school intends to continue to book swimming lessons for Year 4 pupils but this will be reviewed regularly to reflect the needs of pupils, the needs of the school and any changes in provision at Forest Hill Pools. Please note, our current Year 5 pupils completed their swimming lessons last academic year.
Your sincerely,
Mrs Cooper
