Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,

RE: Year 6 Curriculum – Summer 2

It may be hard to believe, but your children have just seven weeks left in primary school! We are looking forward to a busy, hard-working and fun end to the school year. 

Our theme for this last half term is: Macbeth, Memories and Moving on Up! Our aim for this term is threefold: to keep as many of the children’s normal routines in place as possible; to prepare them for the transition to secondary school; and to celebrate and mark their achievements during their time at Kelvin Grove. Below are the key dates and information you need to know for this term:

Friday 5^th July – Y6 Sports Day (9.30am – 12.00pm – Wells Park)
Tuesday 23^nd July – Y6 End of Year Party (5.00pm – 7.00pm)
Wednesday 24^th July – Y6 Leavers’ Performance (9.30am start time)

Yearbook

As is our tradition, we will be making a yearbook for the children as a memento of their time at Kelvin Grove. The children are currently working hard towards this. Every child is featured and the final product is printed and bound externally to a high professional standard.  The yearbook is something to cherish and a special souvenir that they can look back on in the days, weeks, months and years to come. More information on this will be sent out to you soon.

Secondary transition

The children will take part in secondary transition workshops this term in school provided by  Outreach Inclusion. We will continue to follow up on this in PHSE lessons and provide support to individual children as necessary. Individual secondary schools will write to you directly with the dates and times of their visit days for incoming Year 7s. Please keep an eye out for these communications and inform the school office of dates when your child/children will be out of school attending them.    

Year 6 Leavers’ Party – Tuesday 23^rd July, 5.00-7.00pm

This will be in the Main Hall from 5.00pm until 7.00pm (Food will be provided.) Further details will be sent to you nearer the time.

Year 6 Leavers’ Performance – Wednesday 24^th July, 9.30am  

This will take place on the last day of term – please mark the date in your diaries.  You will be asked nearer to the time how many seats you require (usually a maximum of two per family).

A reminder that we have asked for baby photos of the children for this, please could these be sent to the school office or directly to year6@kelvingrove.lewisham.sch.uk . Thank you.

Uniform

Please note that children are expected to be in full school uniform until the last day of term (Wednesday 24^th July).  This includes black school shoes or black trainers. If there are any difficulties with this, please speak to your child’s registration teacher. Our PE day will continue to be on alternative Wednesdays and every Thursday; children are expected to wear their Kelvin Grove jumpers as part of their school uniform. In light of hotter weather, please reinforce what we teach the children in PHSE about daily washing, using deodorant as appropriate and changing their school shirt regularly.
