Dear Parents and carers,

RE: Ready, Steady, Read!

To encourage a lifelong love of reading at home and at school, we are running a whole school sponsored read between the 17^th – 24^th June 2024.

The project is being organised with Usbourne Books. They have agreed that all the money raised by the sponsored read will go towards brand new books for our school. In addition to the sponsorship money, Usbourne will also donate up to 60% of the total raised in extra free books – so, for every £600 raised, we get an extra £360 in free books.

Please help us on this journey by encouraging your child to spend time each day reading to themselves, or to others, or being read to. They can read comics, magazines, newspapers, websites, recipes, poems, leaflets – anything with words!

There will also be a prize for the children in Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key stage 2 who have read the most.

On Friday 21^st June of the ‘Ready Steady Read’ week, children can come to school dressed in clothes that they would comfortably curl up in to read a book – this could be pyjamas, lounge wear, anything that they feel relaxed in. 

We ask for a donation up to £1 for the own clothes day. This money will also go towards the Ready Steady Read total.

If you are able to support our sponsored read, please find enclosed a sponsorship form and reading log for your child if they wish to use it to record their reading. You, your family and friends can sponsor your child a small amount of money for each minute they spend reading, or a total donation for any reading they do in that week.

Please could all sponsorship forms and money be brought in and handed to your child’s class teacher by the 28^th June 2024.
