Dear Parents/Carers of Year 1,
Thank you for attending the Year 1 ‘Stay and Play‘ workshop at the start of term. The children have settled really well into the Year 1 routines and timetable.
Our learning journey topic this term is ‘Marvellous Me’, where the children will be discussing and talking about themselves and their families.
English
This term our learning will be based around the book ‘Hair Love’ which is a book about a relationship between a Black father and his daughter. Our focus this term in writing will be using capital letters and full stops in sentences. We will also be including Oracy skills in our lessons, where we will be learning how to express our opinions and listen to others.
Maths
The focus in Maths this term is numbers to 10. Children need to be able to count forwards and backwards fluently up to 10 and understand place value.
Science
This term the children will be learning about their body and their senses. Each term we will also be exploring seasonal changes.
Reading
We would really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 1. Children need to continue to bring their book bags to school every day. The books get changed on a Thursday and the new books will be handed out on the Friday. Please remember to look after this reading book and return this to your child’s teacher each week, otherwise we will not be able to give your child a new book.
PE – Thursdays
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit every Thursday. This term PE will be outside. School PE kit consists of trainers or plimsoles, plain black or grey shorts/trousers, a white T-shirt and their red school jumper. Please do not send your child into school wearing football shirts or other non-uniform clothing. Please also remember no jewellery (e.g. hooped earrings) and ideally children should wear Velcro trainers.
Important reminders
Thank you for your ongoing support. We would like to remind you of the following:
Uniform
Please make sure jumpers and coats are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This makes it much easier to return lost property.
Snacks & Water bottle
We provide fruit every day in the morning so you do not need to provide any snacks. Please send your child with a water bottle each day.
Forest School
Your child is in either group A or group B. Please refer to your letter for the dates. We will also text you reminders for this.
Dates for Reference:
| Week Beginning 21st October | Parents’ Evening with your child’s class teacher. Exact dates and information will follow shortly. |
| Week Beginning 11th November | Phonics Parents’ Workshops for all three classes. More information will be sent out in a letter. |
| Week Beginning 29th November | There will be a ‘Stay and Share’ session for children to celebrate their work with their adult. We will send you more details closer to the time. |
