Monday 11th November 2024
Dear Parents/Carers of Year 2,
Our learning journey topic this term is ‘Pole to Pole’. The children will be learning about the human and physical geography of both polar regions and how it differs from countries on the equator. During the first three weeks of term, we will be looking at alternative traditional tales in the form of Red in the City by Marie Voigt. Later in the term we will be focusing on the book, The Great Explorer.
Reading
We really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 2. Children need to continue to bring their book bags to school every day. The adults in each class will change your child’s book with their reading band level on Thursdays and send the new books home on Fridays.
PE
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit on their PE days. School PE kit consists of trainers or plimsoles, plain black or grey shorts/trousers, a white T-shirt and their red school jumper. Please do not send your child into school wearing football shirts or other non-uniform clothing.
PE is on Wednesdays and every other Monday during PPA.

Mathletics homework
We will be setting weekly maths homework on Mathletics on Fridays. Children’s logins are printed in their reading records. If you need support accessing the platform or need the login details re-printed, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Stay and Share Date:
We would like to invite you into our classrooms to show parents and carers all the hard work children have been completing. This will give all pupils the opportunity to proudly explain their learning and share some activities. This will take place on Wednesday 27th November from 8.45-9.10am and 2.40-3.10pm.
Project Home Learning:
We would like children to show what they remember from last term’s topic ‘Moving With the Times.’ Last term, in science lessons, the children learnt the names, uses and properties of a range of different materials. Our home learning project is to create an object made from any material/materials and discuss with you why they have chosen to use them, based on their properties. Children to bring in their objects from 2nd December onwards.

Thank you in advance for your continued support.
