Dear Parents/ Carers of Year 3 pupils,
Re: Year 3 Curriculum – Autumn 2 2024
Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful break. Below we have outlined some key information regarding this term that we hope you will find useful.
Curriculum
Our topic this term is the physics topic ‘Light Fantastic!’. In English, we will be focusing on an animation that follows an inventor’s journey to create an eco-friendly source of light and on the book Sulwe by Lupito Nyong’o. In Maths, our main focus will be on the short column method for addition and subtraction and using dienes and place value counters to support this. Please take a look at our mind map on the school website for further information on our Learning Journey.
Daily Reading
Please read with your child daily or as regularly as possible and record this in their reading record. We are encouraging children to keep these in their school bag every day so they can be accessed in class when necessary. Children’s books will be changed on Thursday in Emerald class; Friday in Jade and Mint class. We will be investigating different ways of celebrating children’s reading achievements over the term.
P.E. Lessons
Your child will be wearing their PE kits all day so please ensure they have the appropriate kit (white T-shirt, dark bottoms, school jumper), including trainers/plimsols.
Mint will have PE every Wednesday; Jade and Emerald will have PE every Friday.
In addition, Year 3 will also have PE on PPA Mondays: 4th November, 18th November,
2nd December, and 16th December.
Uniform
Encourage your child to wear full school uniform and ensure they have a coat appropriate for the weather. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings. Please ensure their coats and jumpers are labelled with their names. This helps greatly with reuniting misplaced items with their owners.
Home Learning Projects
Please see below for our home learning project for this half term. Please send in any completed projects by Monday 9th December so that we can put them on display.
Thank you for all your support and as always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Mrs Heron-Njie, Mrs Legouix, Mrs Clark and the Year 3 Team
