Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: Year 1 Toys and Puppets around the world Workshop
To consolidate learning on our ‘Toys R Us’ topic, Year 1 will visit Horniman Museum to take part in an educational workshop.
Coral Class workshop – Tuesday 3rd December 2024
The children will have the opportunity to explore the mechanisms, materials, and uses of toys: from a Zimbabwean push-along drummer, to a Russian pendulum toy, to Guatemalan worry dolls, and use a transforming doll to tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood together.
We will be walking to the museum and back so please make sure that your child brings a waterproof coat, a hat and gloves if it is cold. Children should wear the shoes that they normally wear to school, provided they are sturdy and comfortable.
There is no requirement for schools to ask parental permission for trips that take place within the school day. However, if you have any concerns about your child attending this trip please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Children will eat their lunch at the Horniman, if you would like to pre-order a FREE school packed lunch for this trip, you must complete the online form below by Friday 6th December. This is to ensure that the kitchen staff have sufficient time to order in the correct food.
Due to a last-minute change in workshop times the children will not be able to have lunch in school before we go for our workshop and as it is short notice the school is unable to provide school packed lunches. We ask you kindly to provide your child with a home-made healthy packed lunch for this trip which should not contain fizzy drinks, sweets, or nuts (due to pupil allergies). Lunch needs to be fully disposable and in a named carrier bag. We are sorry for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
The trip costs £4.00 per child and payment can be paid via SCOPAY.
Please make payments and complete the online slip to order a lunch (if required) by Tuesday 10th December.
Thank you,
The Year 1 Team
