Friday 28th February 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: World Book Day 2025
We are excited to celebrate World Book Day at Kelvin Grove on Friday 7th March 2025. This letter provides details about the learning and activities planned for this fun and meaningful event. This year, our activities will be centred around the World Book Day theme, ‘Read Your Way,’ which promotes Reading for Pleasure—something we strongly encourage at Kelvin Grove.
On World Book Day, children are welcome to dress up if they wish. They can choose to dress as a character from their favourite book or bring in an accessory related to their chosen story—for example, a crown for The Paper Bag Princess or a picnic basket for We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. Alternatively, children can simply bring in their favourite book to share with their class.
Paired reading
As we do every year, older children will visit a younger class to share a beloved book. This special activity is always a highlight of the day and will, as always, be captured in photos on our website.
Recommended Reads
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, children will take part in an exciting activity to share their favourite ways to read and create their own book recommendations. They will have the opportunity to write about a favourite book, explaining why they love it and why others should read it. These recommendations will be shared in our school library, online and with other classes, helping to inspire a love of reading across the school.
Get Caught Reading Your Way!
Following the theme of Read Your Way, during the week of World Book Day, we will be asking staff and pupils to share their favourite ways to read and posting these on the website and across our social media. We would like to encourage parents and carers to send in, tweet, email etc photographs of your family reading one of their favourite books at home in a comfy spot. We will share a collection of these in the newsletter and across our social media.
The Travelling Scholastic Book Fair
The Book Fair will be open after school in the Music Room on Friday 7th, Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th, and Wednesday 12th March. Payments are cashless and parents/carers will be able to scan a QR code to pay or purchase vouchers online. See some of the books on offer below. Please see the school link here for purchasing vouchers to use and look out for posters with the QR code on in the Music Room and Main Office. All purchases at the Book Fair will earn our school rewards towards free books!
Book Cover Design Competition!
Children have the chance to win a £5 book vouche to spend at the book fair by designing their own book cover! Full details will available in paper letters sent home today – the deadline is Thursday 6th March. Completed entries should be handed in to your child’s class teacher or Miss Bines. Winners will be announced in assembly on Friday 7th March. Good luck all!
