Dear Parents and Carers of Year 2,
Re: Year 2 Curriculum Spring 2 2025: Soil, Seeds and Sunshine!
Welcome back to school. We hope that you have all had a wonderful break. Our learning journey topic this term is ‘Soil, Seeds and Sunshine! This is a science-based theme. We will be discovering how seeds and plants grow and describing and carrying out experiments to discover the key ingredients to growing a healthy plant. We will be taking the children to visit Horniman Gardens in March (further information regarding the trip will be sent separately.) In English, children will read ‘The Flower’ by John Light and ‘A Garden’ by Leila Berg and write non-fiction reports and their own version of a story. As part of our Geography curriculum, our learning will focus on the local area by studying maps, atlases and google earth.
Reading
We really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 2.
Books and reading records should be brought to school every day. Reading records and books will be collected on Wednesday, and new books will be sent home on Fridays. New books cannot be sent home until the old ones have been returned.

If you need support accessing the platform or need the login details re-printed, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Library
The children will be visiting the library fortnightly where they have the opportunity to explore a range of books and pick a book to take home. Please ensure that library books are bought back in on the following days:
Friday 7th March 2025
Friday 21st March 2025
Friday 4th April 2025
Project home work:
We would like children to create their own research page on an animal of their choosing. This will support their previous learning from last term where we looked at animals and humans. Your child has already created a fantastic fact file on Wolves. They found information about its diet, habitat and what kind of creature it is. Now they could come back into school with their own information about animal that they are personally really interested in.

Important dates
School photos will be Wednesday 26th February, please look out for further instructions from the School Office about ordering.
World Book Day will be Friday 7th March.
Parents‘ Evening will be in the last week of term – Tuesday 1st April 3:30 – 7:00 pm and Wednesday 2nd April 3:30 – 6:00pm. Further information about this will follow in a separate letter later this term.
Other reminders
Finally, as the weather is still quite often cold, children will need a coat appropriate for the weather. Please remember, children are encouraged to bring in reusable water bottles with their names clearly labelled.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
