Re: Year 3 Curriculum Spring 2 2025: Groovy Greeks
Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful break. Below we have outlined some key information regarding this term that we hope you will find useful.
Curriculum
Our topic this term is ‘Groovy Greeks’ where the children will learn about the origins of democracy, compare the Ancient Greek alphabet with the English modern (Roman) alphabet. In English we will be reading Greek Myths and creating an information page about them. In Maths we will continue our learning of 2,3,4,5 and 8x tables as well as multiplying and dividing a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. We will also be moving onto fractions. Children will be learning about Sikhism in RE, and PSHE will cover citizenship.
Home Learning
Children who read regularly at home make good progress in all areas of the curriculum. Please support your child in reading daily and record this in their reading record. We are encouraging children to keep these in their school bag every day so they can be accessed in class when necessary. Children’s books will be changed on Thursday in Emerald class; Friday in Jade and Mint class.
In Maths children have logins to TTRS (Times Table Rock Stars) and Mathletics. Mathletics tasks are set each week. TTRS is progressive and children will make progress the more often they play. Children will start to have weekly times table tests this term: they are very motivated, please help them practice!
We will continue to have weekly spellings to learn at home, these will be sent home with children. They have been working really hard to learn their weekly spellings, please support them in practicing these too.
Children will be bringing home a home learning project sheet. We would love each child to complete at least one project, and bring them into school to share with their classmates in Week 5.
P.E. Lessons
Your child will be wearing their PE kits all day so please ensure they have the appropriate kit (white T-shirt, dark bottoms), including trainers/plimsols. Year 3 will have PE on PPA Monday 10th March and PPA Monday 24th March. In addition, Mint will have PE every Wednesday and Jade and Emerald will have PE every Friday.
Important dates
School photos will be Wednesday 26th February, please look out for further instructions from the School Office about ordering.
World Book Day will be Friday 7th March.
Parents‘ Evening will be in the last week of term – Tuesday 1st April 3:30 – 7:00 pm and Wednesday 2nd April 3:30 – 6:00pm. Further information about this will follow in a separate letter later this term.
Uniform
Encourage your child to wear full school uniform and ensure they have a coat appropriate for the weather. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings. Please ensure their coats and jumpers are labelled with their names. This helps greatly with reuniting misplaced items with their owners.
Other information
Please ensure your child brings to school a labelled water bottle each day.
