Dear Parents and Carers of Year 3 pupils,
Re: Year 3 Curriculum – Summer 1 2025: Getting To The Root of It
We hope you are enjoying a wonderful break. A reminder School returns on Tuesday 22nd April due to the bank holiday. Below we have outlined some key information regarding this term that we hope you will find useful.
Curriculum
Our topic this term in Science is ‘Getting To The Root Of It’ where we will be learning about the function of a plant and investigating what different plants need to grow. We will also learn about the life cycle of a flowering plant. In English, we’re studying traditional tales with a focus on The Pied Piper of Hamelin. We will also be exploring a range of poems by several different poets. For the first part of the term, we’re going to learn about fractions followed by length and perimeter. Please take a look at our mindmap below for more information on our Learning Journey.
Home Learning
Children who read regularly at home make good progress in all areas of the curriculum. Please support your child in reading daily and record this in their reading record. Reading records are checked each week by class teachers and we celebrate and recognise the efforts of the children who are regularly reading at home.
This term we are introducing a Reading Challenge to further support and encourage daily reading at home. We will introduce this to the children in school and look forward to working together to complete it.
Children will be given spellings to learn this half term. They will be tested on the spellings on Mondays.
In Maths children have logins to TTRS (Times Table Rock Stars) and Mathletics. Mathletics tasks are set each week. TTRS is progressive and children will make progress the more often they play.
Please see the outline below of the choices for Year 3’s Home Learning Project this term.
P.E. Lessons
Your child will be wearing their PE kits all day so please ensure they have the appropriate kit (white T-shirt, dark bottoms), including trainers/plimsols on Monday’s every other week.
Uniform
Please encourage your child to wear full school uniform and ensure they have a coat appropriate for the weather. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings. Please ensure they bring a labelled water bottle into school, especially as the weather is becoming warmer.
Other Information
As part of our Science topic, the children will be visiting Wells Park on Wednesday 23rd April 2025 for the Launch of our new topic. This will be a short local walk, managed by school staff and on this occasion we will not require any parent helpers.
Please note parental permission is not required for trips that occur during the school day however, should you have any questions about the visit please speak with your child’s class teacher or contact the School Office.
Thank you for all your support, and as always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
