Thursday 17th April 2025
Dear Year 6 parents and carers,
We hope that your children are enjoying a relaxing and restful Easter break and are ready for a busy and productive Summer term. A reminder School returns on Tuesday 22nd April due to the bank holiday.
Please note a change to the children’s PPA PE Lesson this coming week, to Wednesday 23rd April, children should wear their PE kit on this day.
As you are fully aware, the children have been working extremely hard towards their SATs. Every school day between now and then is vitally important and we appreciate your support in ensuring that your child is in school every day and on time. Below is the timetable of tests that the children will be sitting. All tests will start immediately after morning registration. These dates and times have been set nationally and cannot be changed for individual schools or pupils; therefore, all Year 6 children need to be present during this week and on time.
Monday 12th May 2025 – Grammar Paper and Spelling Paper
Tuesday 13th May 2025 – Reading Paper
Wednesday 14th May 2025 – Maths Arithmetic Paper 1 & Maths Reasoning Paper 2
Thursday 15th May 2025 – Maths Reasoning Paper 3
Curriculum:
Our topic this term is called ‘Shocks and Scares!’, with a focus on suspense writing in English and Electricity as our Science learning. Below is our mind map which shows all the learning that will be covered this term.

PE Lessons:
PE lessons will be on PPA days (23rd April, 6th May). In addition to this, Copper will be doing PE lessons every Thursday; Brass and Bronze will be doing PE every Friday.
On PE days, children may come to school in their PE uniform which consists of their red Kelvin Grove school jumper or cardigan, a plain white t-shirt (round neck or polo), grey or black tracksuit bottoms and trainers.
Morning Breaktime Snacks:
We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents/carers that Kelvin Grove is a ‘Healthy School’ and we strongly encourage children to bring a nutritious snack for morning break so they have the opportunity to eat something that will sustain them until lunchtime. We appreciate your support with ensuring that your children have something healthy to eat at school.
France Trip
We hope the children and staff attending the France trip have an amazing time Monday 19th May – Friday 23rd May. A reminder that there is one final meeting for parents being held on Tuesday 22nd April at 3.30pm.
We have planned a fun-packed week for those children who are not attending the France trip, where they will be doing sports with Mr Gibbs, French baking and other activities throughout the week. A trip to Frylands Wood Scout Outdoor Centre has been arranged for Friday 23rd May, we will send out further details about this later in the term.
SATs Week (Monday 12th May – Thursday 15th May)
Children will be invited into school for 8.30am and a light snack will be provided for them. It is important that the children are punctual during SATs week to allow them to settle for the assessments. More information regarding this will be sent closer to the time.
Home Learning
This term, we would you like the children to focus on revision in preparation for the SATs. We will be using the CGP books more this term which the children can take home. We also want them to have the opportunity to work on what they feel will benefit them.
If you have any questions about anything, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher.
Thank you.
