RE: Nursery Summer 1 Curriculum 2025

Welcome back we hope you all had an enjoyable Easter break. 

Our topic this term is Superheroes including Oral Health.

Our Nursery and Number rhymes are:

• Little Bo Peep
• Miss Polly had a Dolly
• Brushing My Teeth
• Little Miss Muffet
• There’s a Worm at the Bottom of My Garden

Our Number Rhymes:

• A Sailor Went to Sea
• 10 in a Bed
• 5 Little Monkeys
• I have 10 Little Fingers
• One Potato, Two Potatoes

Early Reading
In Nursery we teach pre-reading skills using the Little Wandle Foundations for Phonics programme. Our aim is to ensure that the children are well prepared to begin more systematic phonics teaching at the start of Reception. Currently, your child is participating in a variety of activities that are aimed to develop focused listening and attention skills. These are fundamental to developing an awareness of sound. As well as our weekly rhymes, we are also playing daily ‘tuning into sound’ games. Children will be introduced to a letter sound each week. This half-term, we will be covering j,v,w,y,z,qu,ch.  At this stage we only introduce the sounds, not their associated letters. Formal letter/sound correspondences are taught in Reception.

Reading at Home
It’s important that the children are reading as much as possible and reading with you everyday goes a long way. Thank you for all your support in making this an enjoyable experience for your child. The children are always excited to choose a book to take home and share with their family!   If you would like more advice on how to support your child with their pre-reading skills, please let us know.

Donations
We are looking at extending our Home Role Play Area  – we are looking for donations of old pots, pans, kitchen utencils, artifical plants and flowers, dressing up hats, handbags, children magazines, note books and phones. If you can think of anything else that you think the children may enjoy, please bring it in!  Thank you in advance. 

Up and Coming Nursery Events
Superhero Day – Friday 23^rd May: Children will be invited to come to nursery dressed in their OWN MADE superhero costume (more information to follow)
