Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: Walk to School Week: Monday 19th – Friday 23rd May 2025
Our School Council is excited to share the fantastic challenges they have designed for this year’s Walk to School Week, taking place from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd May. These activities aim to encourage active travel, spark curiosity, and promote road safety across the school.
Each year group has been set a challenge to complete during the week, whether walking to or from school—or even on a walk at another time.
- Nursery, Reception and Year 1: Find the rainbow! Spot something of each colour when out on a walk. You can draw, write about, or photograph the things you see.
- Year 2 and Year 3: Try to go on a walk each day. Think about how walking makes you feel and how to stay safe near roads.
- Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6: On your walk, identify human and physical features. Then, create a slogan and design an awesome shoe to help promote active travel.
Challenge sheets have been sent home with children and are also available to download below. On the back of the sheet, children are asked to draw a map of their journey to school.
Please return all completed challenges to your Class Teacher by Friday 23rd May. Don’t forget to include your child’s name and class on their entry. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative and thoughtful challenges!
This competition has been created in collaboration with Transport for London (TfL) and contributes to our school’s progress towards achieving Gold Accreditation in the Travel for Life campaign.
Prizes have been generously donated by Micro Scooters who champion active travel. As well as their famous 3-wheeled scooters Micro also offer a range of 2 wheel scooters suitable for older and more advanced riders and Lewisham’s Road Safety Team. We have also received encouragement from JD Sports who were inspired to hear about the efforts we are making to encourage active travel and our “dedication to fostering a healthier lifestyle for the children is commendable.”
Thank you for your support, and happy walking!
