Dear Year 4 parents/carers,
RE: Year 4 Curriculum Letter – Summer 2 ‘Classification & Changing Habitats’
Welcome back. Here is some key information regarding Summer Term 2.
Our Learning
The science topic this half term is ‘Classification & Changing Habitats’. The children will be learning to group living things in a variety of ways. They will explore and use classification keys and consider how environmental changes can affect living things. As part of this topic, they will be visiting Devonshire Road Nature Reserve. You will receive a separate letter with more information about this trip, links are provided below in the class name.

In History, the children will be learning about the Vikings and work towards answering the depth enquiry question, ‘Were the Vikings raiders, traders or something else?’. Their English learning will be based around the following texts: Arthur & the Golden Rope, How the Stars came to Be, Viking Voyagers & Overheard in a Tower Block. In Maths, the children will be learning about decimals, money and time.
The Multiplication Tables Check
Next week the children will be participating in the Multiplication Tables Check, which is statutory for all Year 4 pupils. The children have been working hard to learn their times tables and are well prepared for the check. They have practised in test conditions so know what to expect. It is a very quick test and should take no more than a few minutes. Please see the separate letter for more information. The results will be shared with you by the end of term.
P.E. Lessons
As usual, the children will have PE with their teacher once a week, as well as PE with Mr Gibbs on PPA days once a fortnight. Your child should wear their school PE kit to school on these days (grey or black leggings or joggers, a white T-shirt, a red school jumper & trainers).
