Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,
RE: Year 6 Curriculum – Summer 2: Macbeth, Memories and Moving on Up!
It may be hard to believe, but your children have just seven weeks left in primary school! We are looking forward to a busy, hard-working and fun end to the school year.
Our theme for this last half term is: Macbeth, Memories and Moving on Up! Our aim for this term is threefold: to keep as many of the children’s normal routines in place as possible; to prepare them for the transition to secondary school; and to celebrate and mark their achievements during their time at Kelvin Grove. Below are the key dates and information you need to know for this term:
Wednesday 16th July – Y6 Play Afternoon Performance (1.40pm – 3.00pm)
Thursday 17th July – Y6 Play Evening Performance (6.00pm – 7.00pm)
Monday 21st July – Y6 End of Year Party (5.00pm – 7.00pm)
Tuesday 22nd July – Y6 Leavers’ Assembly (9.30am start time)
Y6 Sports Day to be confirmed in a separate letter later this term.
Yearbook
As is our tradition, we will be making a yearbook for the children as a memento of their time at Kelvin Grove. The children have already begun working hard on this and staff are finalising the final product. Every child is featured and the final yearbook is printed and bound externally to a high professional standard. The yearbook is something to cherish and a special souvenir that they can look back on in the days, weeks, months and years to come. All children will be given their yearbook during the Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly.
Secondary transition
We will be supporting out children with their secondary school transition in many ways throughout the term. Individual secondary schools will write to you directly with the dates and times of their visit days for incoming Year 7s. Some of our children will children will take part in secondary transition workshops this term in school provided by Outreach Inclusion and our Educational Physiologist. We will continue to follow up on this in PHSE lessons and provide support to individual children as necessary. Please keep an eye out for these communications and inform the school office of dates when your child/children will be out of school attending them.
Year 6 Play – Wednesday 16th July and Thursday 17th July
We are delighted that Year 6 will be putting on a performance of the play Shakespeare Rocks for parents and carers. There will be two performances, an afternoon performance on Wednesday 16th July from 1.40pm and an evening performance on Thursday 17th July from 6.00pm. Further details and an opportunity for parents to select which performance they attend will be sent out later in the term.
Year 6 Leavers’ Party – Monday 21st July, 5.00-7.00pm
This will be in the Main Hall from 5.00pm until 7.00pm (Food will be provided.) Further details will be sent to you nearer the time.
Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly – Tuesday 22nd July, 9.30am
This will take place on the last day of term; Mr Hyde will be presenting children with their yearbooks and speaking about their time at Kelvin Grove. Parents are welcome to attend the assembly and celebrate the Class of 2025. There will be an opportunity after the assembly to take photos in the Paxton Playground. Please note the children will not be performing at the assembly. You will be asked nearer to the time how many seats you require (usually a maximum of two per family)
Uniform
Please note that children are expected to be in full school uniform until the last day of term (Tuesday 22nd July). This includes black school shoes or black trainers. If there are any difficulties with this, please speak to your child’s registration teacher. Our PE day will continue to be on PPA Tuesdays (All Classes) and every Thursday (Group 2 with Miss Hudson) and Friday (Group 1 with Mr Gough); children are expected to wear their Kelvin Grove jumpers as part of their school uniform. In light of hotter weather, please reinforce what we teach the children in PHSE about daily washing, using deodorant as appropriate and changing their school shirt regularly.
Home Learning
As part of our PSHE lessons, we will be looking at ‘Economic Wellbeing’. Your home learning is to make a poster about how to keep your money safe and how to spot the risks. The poster is aimed at young children and needs to be informative, colourful and creative! Think about the below scenarios from the lesson to help you.
- Scenario One: Unattended wallet
- Scenario Two: Lost mobile phone
- Scenario Three: Sharing passwords
- Scenario Four: Public Wi-Fi
- Scenario Five: Personal information
- Scenario Six: Suspicious email
We are looking forward to enjoying this last term with your children. If you have any questions, please speak with your child’s class teacher.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Year 6 Team
