Dear Y2 Parents/Carers
RE: Y2 Trip to St Paul’s Cathedral
Our topic this term is ‘Out of the Ashes’ and all Y2 classes will be learning about the Great Fire of London. As part of this topic, we will be visiting St Paul’s Cathedral on:
Saffron Class – Tuesday 8th July 2025 (9.30 am – 2.45pm approximate)
Cinnamon Class – Tuesday 15th July 2025 (9.30 am – 2.45pm approximate)
This trip will support the children’s understanding of what happened and the impact that it had on London and Londoners, as well as supporting them to answer their depth enquiry question for history: ‘Would the Great Fire of London Happen Today?’.
We will walk to Forest Hill Station, and take the train to London Bridge Station. We will walk through Borough Market and over the Millennium Bridge to St Paul’s via the Monument and over London Bridge back to the station. We will return to school before the end of the school day. If our return is delayed we will contact you via text message.
On the day of the trip, we need to be at St Paul’s Cathedral in time for our self-guided tour at 12 pm, so we will be leaving school at 9.50 am.
The cost of the visit to St Paul’s Cathedral is £4 which should be paid via SCOPAY / TRIPS & EVENTS.
The children will be doing a lot of walking during the day and will need to wear full school uniform and trainers or appropriate walking footwear (please no sandals or wellies!).
Children will need to bring a waterproof and warm coat with a hood. They will also need to bring a small rucksack so that they can carry their lunch, as well as a refillable water bottle. The children will eat their packed lunch in a lunch room inside St Paul’s Cathedral.
There is no requirement for schools to ask parental permission for trips that take place within the school day. However, if you have any concerns about your child attending this trip please speak to your child’s class teacher.
If you would like to pre-order a FREE school packed lunch for this trip, you must complete the online form below by Monday 23rd June 2025. This is to ensure that the kitchen staff have sufficient time to order in the correct food.
Alternatively, you can provide your child with a home-made healthy packed lunch which should NOT contain fizzy drinks, sweets, or NUTS (due to pupil allergies). Lunch needs to be fully disposable and in a named carrier bag.
In order for this for this trip to go ahead, we will need three parent helpers per class. Please do let your class teacher know if you would be available to support a group on this trip.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Y2 team
