Dear Parents/Carers of Year 1,
RE: Y1 Curriculum Letter, Autumn 1 ‘Marvellous Me’
The children have settled in really well into the Year 1 routines and timetable.
Our learning journey topic this term is ‘Marvellous Me’, where the children will be discussing and talking about ourselves and our families.
English

This term our learning will be based around the book ‘Hair Love’ which is a book about a relationship between Black father and daughter. Our focus this term in writing will be using a capital letter and full stop in a sentence. We will also be including Oracy skills in all our learning, where we will be learning how to express our opinions and listen to others.
We will also be reading the traditional tale Little Red.
Maths
The focus in Maths this term is numbers to 10. Children need to be able to count forwards and backwards fluently up to 10. We also look and understand place value up to 10.
Science
This term, the children will be learning about their body and their senses. Each term we will also be exploring seasonal changes.
Reading
We would really appreciate your continued support with children’s reading at home. Reading at home with your child every day will enable them to make as much progress as possible before the end of Year 1. Children need to continue to bring their book bags to school every day. The books get changed on a Wednesday and the new books will be handed out on the Friday. Please remember to look after this reading book and return this to your child’s teacher each week, otherwise we will not be able to give your child a new book.
PE – Every Thursdays
Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit every Thursday. This term PE will be outside. School PE kit consists of trainers or plimsoles (Velcro trainers are ideal), plain black or grey shorts/jogging bottoms, a white T-shirt and their red school jumper. Please do not send your child into school wearing football shirts or other non-uniform clothing. Please also remember no jewellery or hooped earrings.
PE kit is also required on alternate Tuesdays on the following dates:
Tuesday 9th September, Tuesday 23rd September
Tuesday 7th October, Tuesday 21st October
Important Dates:
Parents evening Meetings will take place in the week beginning 20th October. Further details will follow from school nearer the time.
Other reminders

Please make sure jumpers and coats are clearly labelled in the event of lost property.
Snacks & Water bottle
We provide fruit every day as a morning snack so you do not need to provide any snacks. Please send your child with a named water bottle each day.
Forest School
Your child is in either group A or group B. Please refer to your letter for the dates.
Thank you in advance for your continued support.
