Dear Parents/Carers of Year 6,

RE: Year 6 Curriculum Letter – Autumn 2 ‘Pump it Up!’

Welcome to Autumn 2 and thank you for your support since September. We have an interesting term ahead of us, with a lot of work and fun to be had! Our Learning Journey topic this term is titled: ‘Pump it Up!’.  Below we have outlined some important information regarding this term.

P.E. Lessons

Please ensure your child has the appropriate kit in school on the following days, including trainers and tracksuit bottoms when the weather turns colder.  This should consist of grey or black bottoms, a white t-shirt and a red school jumper/cardigan.

P.E. lessons are on Monday PPA days (17^th November, 1^st December and 15^th December). In addition to this, Brass and Copper will be doing a P.E. lesson every Thursday; Bronze will be doing P.E. every Friday.

Homework             

Reading: Reading with your child and discussing what has been read each day is essential to helping them make progress in all areas of the curriculum. The expectation is that your child reads for at least 15-20 minutes each evening and that they record this in their Planners. We ask that you support and monitor your child’s reading and check/sign it regularly.

Maths: Maths homework is set each Friday on Mathletics. This is to be completed by the Friday of the following week. In addition to this, children will be set pages in their CGP books.

Spellings: A spelling rule will be introduced on Mondays, and throughout the week, lessons and activities will be completed based on this rule. In Year 6, the expectation is that the children learn the spellings over the course of the week which they will be tested on on a Friday – this will enable us to gather evidence to support our end of Key Stage 2 Teacher Assessment.

In addition to this, we may send home additional Grammar worksheets to support the children in their learning. This will be dependent on how the sheets coincide with our weekly learning. This will be communicated with the children which they will record in their Year 6 planners.

In Year 6, children have been given planners. in these, they record the weekly spellings, home learning and reading record input into their planner. We expect these to be brought into school everyday.

Topic Home learning: Last term we learnt about the Maya civilisation and why they were so mysterious. Therefore, this term’s topic home learning will be about the Maya to give the children an opportunity to continue the learning that we started in Autumn 2.

Messages for Teachers
We want to ensure that any messages you send are received and actioned as quickly as possible. We are happy to have brief chats in the playground at the end of the day. However, if you are unable to speak with us directly, please remember the correct channels for communication, especially when reporting pupil absence or sharing concerns/messages for the teaching staff.

Snacks in School
Year 6 pupils can bring into school a healthy snack eg. a piece of fruit, savoury crackers, nut free cereal bar, etc. Also, please ensure that your child does not bring in food that contains nuts.

Names on Belongings
Now that we are entering the winter period, please ensure your child has a warm coat and that all hats, scarves and gloves are named. It is important that your child does not wear jewellery (unless it is for religious reasons) apart from stud earrings.

Important dates:

As part of our launch, we are going on a trip to the Centre of the Cell on Tuesday 11^th November 2025.

Additionally, as part of our landing, we will have visitors come into school for a hands-on heart dissection experience on Tuesday 9^th December 2025. A separate letter with more details will be sent out later in the term about this.

Stay and Share
We will also be holding our Year 6 Parent Stay & Share on Friday 12^th December. We will send more information regarding this closer to the event. A separate letter will also be sent in the coming weeks with dates about the school’s Winter Events.
