Dear Y4 Parents/Carers

RE: Y4 Trip to Surrey Docks Farm

Our topic this term is ‘Farm to Fork’ and all Y4 classes will be learning about where our food comes from. As part of this topic, we will be visiting Surrey Docks Farm on the following dates:

Cobalt Class – Tuesday 25^th November 2025

Turquoise Class – Friday 28^th November 2025

Azure Class – Tuesday 2^nd December 2025

This trip will support the children’s understanding of where our food comes from and how our food choices impact the environment, as well as supporting them to answer their depth enquiry question for geography: ‘Is it better to buy local or imported food?’.

We will be leaving school promptly, taking the overground from Forest Hill Station to Canada Water, where we will then catch a bus from Canada Water bus station to the Farm. Please ensure that your child is in school by 8.45 am as we are unable to wait for latecomers. We hope to be back by the end of the school day, but should we be late, we will inform you by text.

The cost of the visit to Surrey Docks Farm is £7.50 which should be paid via SCOPAY / TRIPS & EVENTS. This will cover a staff-led farm tour and animal feeding session.

The children will be doing a lot of walking during the day and will need to wear full school uniform and trainers or appropriate walking footwear (please no sandals or wellies!).

Children will need to bring a waterproof and warm coat with a hood. They will also need to bring a small rucksack so that they can carry their lunch, as well as a refillable water bottle. The children will eat their packed lunch in a lunch room at Surrey Docks Farm.

There is no requirement for schools to ask parental permission for trips that take place within the school day. However, if you have any concerns about your child attending this trip please speak to your child’s class teacher.

If you would like to pre-order a FREE school packed lunch for this trip, you must complete the online form below by Friday  14^th November 2025, 10.00am. This is to ensure that the kitchen staff have sufficient time to order in the correct food.

Alternatively, you can provide your child with a home-made healthy packed lunch which should not contain fizzy drinks, sweets, or nuts, Nutella or Kinder Bueno hazelnut (due to pupil allergies). Lunch needs to be fully disposable and in a named carrier bag.

We need 1 parent helper per class for these trips, if you are available please let  your child’s class teacher know or contact the School Office.
