Dear Parents and Carers,
All primary school children in London currently receive free school meals funded by the Mayor of London. This means your child already receives a free lunch at school. However, it is still very important that families who may be eligible complete the attached Free School Meals (FSM) form.
Why are we asking for this?
If your child is eligible for benefits-related Free School Meals, the school receives additional funding called Pupil Premium. This funding is worth up to £1,480 per child, per year and is used to provide extra support for children’s learning and wellbeing. Pupil Premium funding helps us to:
- Provide additional teaching and learning support
- Fund resources, books and equipment
- Support school trips, clubs and enrichment activities
- Provide additional pastoral and wellbeing support
What do you need to do?
Simply complete and return the online form. The school will carry out the eligibility check on your behalf. You do not need to apply online yourself. All information provided is:
- Treated as strictly confidential
- Used only to check FSM eligibility
- Not shared beyond this purpose
Why apply if all children already get free meals?
Although all primary pupils in London receive a free meal, Pupil Premium funding is only allocated if a benefits-related FSM check is completed. Without this form, the school does not automatically receive the funding — even if your child would be eligible. Families who are eligible may also be able to access additional support, such as:
- Reduced costs for trips and clubs
- Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme provision
- Continued Pupil Premium support when moving to secondary school
Even if you are unsure whether you qualify, we strongly encourage you to complete the form. A successful check can support your child throughout their time at school and beyond.
If you have any questions or would like help completing the form, please contact the school office.
Thank you for your support.
