Welcome to Summer 1 at Nursery

Our topic this half is Superheroes including Oral Health  

Our Numbers Rhymes are:

Early Reading

In Nursery we teach pre-reading skills using the Little Wandle Foundations for Phonics programme. Our aim is to ensure that the children are well prepared to begin more systematic phonics teaching at the start of Reception.

Currently, your child is participating in a variety of activities that are aimed to develop focused listening and attention skills. These are fundamental to developing an awareness of sound. As well as our weekly rhymes, we are also playing daily ‘tuning into sound’ games. Children will be introduced to a letter sound each week.
This half-term, we will be covering j, v,w,y,qu,ch.  
At this stage we only introduce the sounds, not their associated letters. Formal letter/sound correspondences are taught in Reception.

Donations

We are planning to expand our Home Role Play Area and would greatly appreciate any donations of items such as pots, pans, kitchen utensils, artificial plants and flowers, dressing-up hats, handbags, children’s magazines, notebooks, and phones. If you have anything else you think the children would enjoy, we would be delighted to receive it.

Key Dates: Nursery Events

Superhero Day – Friday 22^nd May: Children will be invited to come to nursery dressed in their own homemade superhero costume, further details to follow in a separate letter.
